Which magnesium is the best?

The wide variety of magnesium supplements on the market can initially seem overwhelming. A key factor in choosing the right one is bioavailability, which refers to the body's ability to absorb and utilize the magnesium.

Among the most well-known and effective organic magnesium compounds are magnesium citrate, magnesium bisglycinate, magnesium malate, magnesium L-threonate, and magnesium taurate. These compounds are characterized by rapid absorption in the body and are considered particularly effective. Additionally, the partner substances to which the magnesium is bound may offer their own health benefits, which could influence your choice.

In contrast, there is magnesium oxide, an inorganic compound. While it contains a high amount of magnesium and is cost-effective, it is absorbed less efficiently than organic variants. PRONESIUM therefore places special emphasis on highly bioavailable, organic magnesium compounds to ensure optimal supply.

The Effects of Magnesium – A Versatile Mineral

Magnesium is one of the essential minerals and plays a key role in over 300 metabolic processes. It supports many functions of the body, including muscle function, energy metabolism, and the nervous system. PRONESIUM develops magnesium products of the highest quality tailored to various needs.

In addition, magnesium helps reduce fatigue and contributes to bone health. According to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), magnesium supports normal muscle and mental function as well as the maintenance of electrolyte balance.

PRONESIUM’s products are precisely dosed to optimally promote these health benefits. They are ideal for daily use and contribute to sustainable support for the body.

What Happens with Excessive Magnesium Intake?

Magnesium is an essential mineral, but an overdose can cause unwanted side effects. Particularly when too much magnesium is consumed, gastrointestinal complaints such as loose stools or diarrhea may occur. In some cases, nausea can also occur.

Tolerance largely depends on the specific magnesium compound. Magnesium bisglycinate is considered particularly well-tolerated and is characterized by high bioavailability.

When dosing, it is advisable to avoid products with extremely high amounts since magnesium is also absorbed through food. The German Nutrition Society (DGE) recommends a daily intake of 300–400 mg of magnesium, preferably in combination with food and dietary supplements.

Which Foods Contain Magnesium?

In addition to dietary supplements, many foods provide a good source of magnesium. Particularly rich in this mineral are pumpkin seeds, almonds, spinach, quinoa, and dark chocolate.

A balanced diet that includes nuts, whole grains, and legumes can significantly contribute to magnesium intake. However, it's not always easy to meet the entire requirement through diet alone.

High-quality products like those from PRONESIUM, often available in convenient capsules or tablets, ideally complement daily nutrition and ensure efficient magnesium absorption.

How much magnesium should you take per day?

The reference value for the recommended magnesium intake, which also forms the basis for the percentage information on product packaging, is 375 mg per day for adults.

This reference value takes into account the total magnesium intake, both through daily diet and supplements. Magnesium is present in numerous foods, so a certain intake is usually ensured through a normal diet. Nevertheless, depending on individual circumstances, such as increased physical activity, stress, or pregnancy, a higher magnesium requirement may exist.

The Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) recommends a maximum daily dose of 250 mg of magnesium from dietary supplements. Our magnesium products offer a safe daily dosage between 240 mg and 300 mg of magnesium.

When should you take magnesium?

In general, it is recommended to distribute magnesium intake evenly throughout the day to ensure a constant supply to the body and optimize absorption.

Depending on the desired effect, however, intake can be adjusted individually. Many people, for example, take their magnesium glycinate before going to bed. Magnesium malate or magnesium citrate is often taken in the morning or during exercise.

In addition, magnesium should ideally be taken with a meal.

It is crucial to adjust the intake according to personal needs and tolerance.
